I have a question that I should know the answer too, but I am questioning myself reluctantly. Just had my 22 re rebuilt ( Engine shop here in Houston)...yesterday as I was changing the oil, Removed the oil filter and its dry!...there is no oil in this filter...wth? ....ive never changed a oil filter in a vehicle where the dang thing is dry and not pouring out when you remove it... so this morning just out of curiosity, I take the filter out ...with oil in the oil pan..of course...the filter is dry...no oil. CAN Anybody tell me what in the hell is going on? ....lol...

 

The Engine isn't over heating, but I have noticed it warms up faster than ...the "old" engine did. Also, the needle never fluctuates or moves with for example changes in temperature...where before it used too. Put over 600 miles on this engine since the rebuild.

 

pull the valve cover and see if there is any oil on top of the heads. If not you probably don't have any oil pressure. Replace the oil pump if this is the case.

And that is def on my list to do...but I am showing oil pressure on my gage?...What does that mean?

 

whats happening is the oil is draining back into the oil pan. This is not really a good thing but its not terrible either.

Didi you run the engine before you changed the oil?
What brand oil filter?

Some oil filters have a anti-drain back valve in them to prevent dry starts.

 

possibly a plugged oil passage. run a can of seafoam in your oil and see if that cleans it up.

 

If no oil was going through your filter, your engine would be siezed.

Like said above, you either have a oil filter with a bad anti-drainback valve, or a filter that doesn't have one.

Go to Walmart and pick up a new one!

Make sure you get a filter with aantidrain back valve.

Yes if you drove 600 miles and your engine did not explode I would think it is your filter.

 

This happened to me once with a Fram filter. Ever since then i've used Toyota OEM filters and have never had this happen.

 

when i had my 88 truck rebuild done, i had the machine shop do the bottom end and i did the rest. put it all together ... no oil pressure. come to find out theres a allenhead plug by one of the main caps in the pan. didnt get put back in. hope thats not your case.

 

This was my question too. Did the filter look brand new on the inside, or was it just not gushing oil when you removed it?
