Have a 96 t-100 SR5 3.4 v 6 with auto trans. oil pan and valve covers are leaking. Mostly oil pan. I really want to fix but am worried about how hard it is to do. Things are tight under there. Anyone done it and can anyone give me a blow by blow. truck has 262,000 miles and still runs great. Thanks for the help.

 

I just did both the valve cover gaskets and new oil pan on mine. Yeah, it's a pain in the rear but I wouldn't say it's hard. Just time consuming.

As far as the oil pan: remove skid plates, wheels, then remove CV joints, disconnect 2 electrical connectors from front diff, 2 vacuum connectors and diff breather, disconnect drive shaft, remove the 2 bolts and the 12mm hex key from diff and wrestle the diff out. That's the fun part. Then removing the oil pan is pretty straight forward from there. I just used RTV on my oil pan and it hasn't leaked one bit, I've heard the cork gaskets can give people trouble.

I've never done either before, and I was able to do everything by myself without any real problems. Expect your truck to be down for 2 or 3 days at least to give yourself plenty of time to do it.

Thanks for response. I have rear wheel drive pichup, so oil pan info won't help. If you know somone who knows have them post will you. mostly need to know if engine has to come up for clearence to remove and install. The valve covers are the same on all 3.4s i'm sure so thanks the link. Thanks again

 

If you have a 2WD then you don't have a front diff which means it is a LOT easier.

As far as I know, there isn't an oilpan gasket on the 3.4. My understanding is that it's all FIPG material.

 

buy a haynes or chilton manual or both. they explain things pretty good
