I have searched all I can on my phone. (Computer is Down) my intake has made a crazy loud inconsistent sucking sound/gurgling sound since I've owned it. The PO installed a cone filter and afm adapter plate.(afm to filter) it is starting to drive me crazy. The sound is coming from the afm. I have removed/changed filters and changed intake tubes. The sound stays the same no matter what I do. It isn't a constant hissing. People point it out all the time and it's getting annoying. Any help would be great. I'll try to get a video in the a.m.

 

I'll bet you a dollar that your PAIR valve (pulsed air injection) is the source of the noise. At idle, it spits exhaust back into the intake to reduce NOx (or something like that) This is the chunk of metal that on the passenger side, and rearmost of the engine. It's connected to the manifold. It looks kinda like an EGR valve. You can remove this piece of crap and make a blockoff plate, or just remove the vacuum hose (and plug it) that's on top of it. If you trace the lines forward from the PAIR valve, you'll see a large diameter rubber hose that will go into your crappy cone intake system. The factory one plumbed into a silencing box, thus you never hear it. I recommend finding a stock intake system and leaving your functioning system alone, but if you insist on keeping the "hot air intake", do the above mentioned.

The EGR recirculates exhaust into the intake tract, lowering combustion temps and aiding in emissions control. The PAIR system adds air to the exhaust, to aid in completely burning fuel off, to assist catalytic converter operation, and reduce emissions... two very different systems. http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h61.pdf

 

Darn, you're right. Thanks for the clarification. It's unnecessary either way but Carl has it's function correct. What you hear is manifold exhaust as the valve is opened up allowing intake air into the manifolds.

 

It's cool, no worries. Mine burbles and makes noises I can hear on decel, OP, you could check your PAIR system out, parts wear and get loose over time, could just be replacement of some screws, and it'd be quiet again. Think that's my problem.
