Good price for a 3.4 with misfiring cylinders?
So I got 91 p/u 3.0 that im interested in doing a 3.4 swap in some day. As it turns out, my buddy has a 96 4runner with a 3.4 that has misfiring cylinders, so hes looking at getting a new motor. I was wondering what a good price would be to buy the misfiring 3.4 off of him or if it is even worth the trouble.
I have driven in his 4runner a lot and honestly i would never guess that there is anything wrong with it. It has over 200,000 miles on it and has been rebuilt already. Also, it has been a daily driver since he bought it and has been even after being diagnosed as misfiring several months ago.
So basically, is it worth my trouble? and if so, what would be a good price for it?
Thanks in advance!

If he thinks it's major enough to buy a new engine, then you ought to be able to get it for $200 or less, or basically scrap price. But yeah, he might be a dum-dum and it's something simple. Having said that, it's ALWAYS better to buy a whole doner.

Well he doesnt know a lot about engines, but i talked to him last night and apparently a head gasket blew while on a snow trip last year. I guess a liquid seal was done, and while doing that the check engine light came on with the misfire codes.
And I know an engine swap is a BIG project. I have started researching, but this is not by an means something I will do anytime soon.

I'd pass on this. I bought a complete wrecked doner for $600 and parted it out afterward and came out money ahead. I have less than $1500 in my whole truck + swap and build. Be patient, something will pop up.
