Question thrust washers caused my new rebuild to blow !!!

Please help !!!! Just rebuilt my 1983 toyota sr5 about a year ago. Only 4000 miles on it. Its been running great, started hearing lower engine noise, like rods. Then she got so loud,I had to shut it down. Pulled the engine apart the other night. Thrust washers were laying in the oil pan, block scarred beyond repair, crank ruined too. Truck was totally babied since rebuild. (IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN FIND A GOOD BLOCK AND CRANK,IN THE DAYTONA-ORLANDO AREA,PLEASE GIVE ME A SHOUT). I dont understand. The original engine block did the same thing when it died(thrust washers) but it had 150,000 miles. This recently built engine block came from a 1984 celica 22r.Some said that they had read, that the truck and car 22r's are not the same(because of torque),is this true? Must I get a block from a truck,or is this BS.

I don't think it really matters the 22r is the 22r. I almost put a celiac 22r in one of my trucks but I junked instead. If you're having the exact same issue more than once is seems like you're doing something incorrectly in your rebuild. 150,000 miles is nothing for the 22r. You should be getting twice that with out massive overhauls, I know I have. I'm not putting down your skills, I have not replace blocks on a 22r ever, only the heads.

Thanks chewmaster for your input. Believe me,I have gone over many reasons why. The machine shop is awesome and they even work with my mechanic for many years. My mech. has been building 22r's for over 25 years as well as other toyota engines and said he has only seen this 2 times in 25 years and both were mine. The only thing that we can try to challenge is to buy thrust washers from a manf. for the trucks orig. engine (83) as well as the (84) that I just recently rebuilt and mic. them both,to see if there is a difference between car and truck thickness,in hopes it will prove thickness or torque strength between the 2 blocks and also check parts #s to see if there is a difference. I am just hoping someone who has dealt with this can provide some input.( MOST IMPORTANTLY----I NEED A GOOD BLOCK AND CRANK) This is a project for my son for 4 years and he leaves for the marines in 5 months and would really like to see him enjoy it a little before he leaves to protect our country. Thank you Barry
