I just installed a used front Diff. It is an IFS with an Aussie Lunch box Locker. It is leaking from the passenger side. Do I need to remove it, take it apart and replace the seal? This truck has a welded IFS brace that makes this job a PIA.

 

Since I have some freewheeling hubs that I need to install I am wondering if I can remove the hubs and axles and replace the inner seal seal without removing the pumpkin from the vehicle.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Good thread, just what I needed. I am away from my truck for a while on a business trip so I cannot inspect it for play/wiggle, but it is pretty clear from your thread that I need to replace the seal. Did you have to remove the pumpkin to do the seal or were you able to do it while it was still in the vehicle.

 

Check out post 25 in that link I showed you, thats the diff still in the truck as I was changing the seal. I didnt even have to fully remove the CV. Just took it out of the diff side and let it hang there, I did pound out 4 of the 6 studs to get it to clear though.

I cant really make heads or tails of that photo, but you told me what I need to know... Replace the seal while in the vehicle. This is good news because I have an IRS brace under the in-put flange that makes lowering and replacing the pumpkin a real wrestling match.
I ended up removing the studs to get it in and I will figure a way to get them out for this job. I just got home and it is hot so I'll get/order parts for this and for my F150 and do the work tomorrow.
