rebuild G52 trans VS ol used craigslist w56

First things first....I SEARCHED for other posts like this, and found nothing, so if I couldn't find one already posted, blame the search engines, went though pages n pages!!!

My G52 trans took a crap, haven't opened it yet, but found pieces of bearings when draining the oil. My hookup on the 22ret r151 trans fell through, sooo bummed!!! So, my 2 options are...rebuild the G52 myself w/ access to a shop for tools OR just buy an old used W56 from craigslist and just throw that in and hope it lasts...???

I would like to have a fresh rebuild, but is it worth the trouble of rebuilding vs just picking up the ol craigslist w56...?!?!?

Mahalo!

p.s.- OR buy a ol used W56 and rebuild that cause its a lil stronger?!?

I was in your position not long ago. I ended up getting my g52 rebuilt for $400, and happy I did. I love Craigslist, but don't care for the headache and unexpected costs of having to rebuild something that was said to be in good working order. Good luck

i think the w56 allows more engine possiblities if you plan on swapping motors in the future

Rbmoomba...Did you rebuild it yourself or someone charged you $400 for a rebuild? I think the rebuild kit is at least $200.

G52 bolts to any 22 motor.

You realize a W56 uses a topshift transfercase? G52 is setup for forward shift... so youll be cutting tunnel out to fit it.
