Is their a fuse for this? I swapped in a new bulb thinking it was just burned out but it still does not work.

 

Have you tried looking at a manual? Owners? FSM? The digaram on your fuse box?

Nothing mentioned in the owners manual. Nothing noted on both fuse boxes I inspected.

Depends on what truck you have.

 

On my 96 3rd gen 4Runner you can't use an aftermarket bulb. The bottom of the stock bulb is a little different in length and the aftermarket bulb can't make contact in the socket, it doesn't fit far enough down in it. Not the same gen or year, whatever yours is, but could that be a problem with it too? You'd think the fuse would run several small things, not just the glove box, so bad fuse should equal more than one thing not working.

hey, same problem; I bought aftermarket LED's (74 size) but the terminals are oriented different. none of my glove box lights currently work in any of my 3 yotas, go figure!

but in my truck, there's no freaking power to it?????????????? hooked up the DMM to see if it was getting juice and not so much.

is this a Toyota mystery? the secret self destructing glove box light circuit? hahaa!

aa1911, exactly what I was thinking. I have not had a chance to test any wires or anything just yet. I figured i'd post first to see if anyone had already discovered the problem. I bought a # 74 replacement as well. It fit perfectly so I don't think that is the problem. All my other circuits are working fine, parking lights, cig, radio, etc.............I have no blown fuses anywhere. The easiest way to see if you have glove box light is to just open your box and see if you have a switch, if so then you have a light tucked up under their as well. I'm wondering if it's just the switch that's bad.

 

I didn't even know any of these rigs had glove box lights! I'm gonna hafta see if I've got one. If I don't...wonder if I could eventually find one and wire it in...?

 

yeah, I'm thinking I'm just going to run an extra hot wire to the glove box and put something brighter than the crappy little 74 in there; I think a standard 168/194 LED would be awesome and more than enough.

will tackle this when I do my cig lighter switch; going to add a (large) hot wire to it with a switch so I can charge my phone and whatnot with the vehicle off/no key. one extra to the glove box and a little customization should do the trick!

 

My glovebox light only comes on if the running lights or headlights are on. Might be your problem.

 

I tried it with the parking lights on with no dice.

 

have you checked that the new bulb is good? use an ohm meter.

i just bought a new back-up bulb and found that it was faulty.

 

If you're referring to a 1st gen 4runner/2nd gen pick-up, there is a factory option for a glove box light (plunger switch activated by door open). It only comes on when the dash lights are on.

My mechanic broke off both the light socket and switch and didn't tell me. I got a new switch from the dealer and wired in a custom LED. Works awesome: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ht-mod-252867/

 

I'm referring to the 5g pickup (aka hilux). 1988~1995. I figured out the problem after testing the switch and the wiring to the bulb. Turns out you really have to push the bulb in pretty hard to get it to seat properly. I put a little di-electric grease in their and pushed it in as far as it would go and now it works! Now I wonder if their is an led version of this bulb.
