camry MAF questions

yes i tried searching. so i finally figured out it was my MAF that was causing no spark and i read about a few people using one out of camry. off to pick a part i go and get one, it came out of a camry, im not sure of the year but it was a 3VZ-FE. a little altering to my airbox and its installed. my truck started right up after install but was very boggish at first but cleared right up with a few stomps of the gas pedal, also i got alot of smoke but i have no idea how long its been since it ran. i go out this mornning and it just rolls over, i get a little shudder when i first turn the key as if it wants to start but doesnt. so my question is does anyone know if the camrys fuel air mix is different? has anyone else done this and experienced this? any input at all?

What is the part number? How does an ohm check on it compare to service manual values for ther right one? Why didn't you just get a VAM(vane air meter; it's not a MAF[mass airflow meter]) that was correct for your truck?

All the tinfoil looking pieces in mine are busted off. There weren't any left at the pick a part. The numbers are almost indentical on the two. Just the last numbers are different.

correct me if I'm wrong.... but isnt the 3vz-fe motor from the camry's a dohc 24v motor? Either way... I would suspect the mixture is different, as they are different motors, with different uses and power bands... I know I've read about a few folks that did this swap, and If not mistaken, they had to open up the camry afm, and click the mixture gear back a tooth or 2... but again... I'm not 100% on that.

Pretty sure I saw the thread here on yt... so search again, but as stated above, its a vafm, not a maf ...

I believe you have to enrich the A/F mix. I cannot remember what AFM I saw some other guy use... but he ended up having to open it up and put it SIX clicks richer.

If memory serves, his AFM was from a turbocharged 7MGE. I doubt you'll have to adjust the 3VZFE that much, but I'd bet a cold one it needs to be richer. Crack the top and loosen the coil spring one tooth at a time and test.

Good luck!

I've been told white is water vapour... possible headgasket. Time for a compression test perhaps? Sorry man.

If the white smoke evaporates quickly, that's just steam from the tailpipe. If it lingers around for several minutes, that's a head gasket issue or similar. If it has a gray/blue tint to it, it's oil burning.

Well it smoked like crazy the whole time I had it running, probably 5 mins or so. I'm not finding oil in my coolant or vice versa though.
