Found a primo 95 2WD one owner 4Runner with a bad motor. It's an automatic too. Going to swap a baby Taco 2WD motor and tranny into it. I can't see there being any issues. Thoughts?

I've haven't seen anyone done it.
If you're swapping the trans too then there should not be issues. Maybe the drive shaft need to be shorten or lengthen. I'm not sure if they use the same output yoke or spline.
The shifter might not lined up and maybe some cutting involved.

Those are my guesses as a web wheeler....

 

Ive never seen that either, I don't see why it wouldn't work the 2wd 4runner is set up exactly the same as a 4wd pretty much. Are you making a prerunner? That would be cool.

 

Just making a cheap, nice daily driver for me and pass along to one of my boys in a couple years.

Sam4Runner put in a a340f 2wd trans and ECU in a 4wd runner. I believe he said he used stock driveshaft and crossmember. Should be cake.

2. I can put a motor in it and have an under $2k very reliable 3rd vehicle that even the wife can/will drive.

You will have to change oil pans, unless your donor Tacoma is a Pre-runner.

Keep in mind a 2WD 4Runner IS a Prerunner (just 4WD delete) where-as a 2WD Non-Prerunner Tacoma is standard 2WD

 

It's a "baby" Tacoma, as we call them, not a PreRunner.

Donor is a 97 2WD automatic. Project vehicle is a 2WD 95 4Runner.

You'll be swappin pans then. You already have to switch to the T100 dipstick setup anyways, and the 4Runner will have the correct pan, mounts, fan, etc etc.

 

Yep, the 3.0 pan will work and swap over easily.

I don't know how similar it is but my truck started life as a '89 2wd with the 3.0 in it. Manual 5speed.

Swapped in a 3.4L. Had to use the 3.0L oil pan and pickup tube along with the splash shield if memory serves me right. Other then that it was pretty straight forward and similar to every other swap on here.

And yes, I said 2wd... Sorry for all the 4WD lovers! LOL, I've got my jeep for that stuff, personal I think lifted 2WD trucks have a place in life!



Pretty sure my 2WD with a spool will out RTI most other trucks! LOL

I have one in the works as well .. cant offer any advice or info just yet , as i'm just collecting parts ... but it is going into a 91 2WD that were going to use our NEW rear dually fenders on . rear tacoma diamond 8.5 3rd posi , W cromo axles morphed into a dually axle , S/C 5Vzfe , will be the "heavy hauler"

Speed sensors. Mine is mechanical. Donor is electronic.

Talked to DC and he said earlier model 2WD Tavoma mechanical speed sensor should/might work.

Anybody confirm this one way or the other?

I got a 5spd with speedometer cable that feeds the instrument cluster. I took the speed signal from the cluster to the ECU and my scanner can read the speed from it.
