A couple steering questions (read plenty of threads)

I have a 1982 Toyota with about 6 inches of lift on 35's. My steering is destroyed. I've read all threads available about death wobble and know what to look for. The guy I bought it from said it had power steering but he ripped out the pump. I don't see a resevoir or even how a PS pump would mount, would love some pics if possible. I'm about to buy a complete PS setup on craigslist and some visuals/advice would be nice. My whole front end feels like it's going to fall off when driving, it acually drives straight about 30 seconds, then yanks hard/wobbles, straightens out for a bit, wash rinse repeat. Scary. Also just moving it around in my driveway, the steering binds up pretty bad (not in 4WD). Front end is up in the air now, no top to bottom wobble on wheels so wheel bearings seem fine, but side to side is awful, I can also move the steering arm by hand at the gear box quite a bit. I don't wheel hard, would like to drive on the highway as well so I don't think I need to do the Hi-Steer conversion. Is buying all new parts, (PS pump, TRE's, center link) a good investment. I can get the whole setup from a guy for $200. So, advice on what to do I guess, and pics of a PS setup in these trucks would be awesome.

Thank you in advance

I went ahead and bought all the power steering stuff. Looks like the reservoir is from an 84 and up, hoping to make it fit. Also ordered a knuckle rebuild from WabFab. We'll see how it goes.

High crossover steering is what you need. Stock push and pull with that much lift and that big a tire is awful.

Pictures would really help too.

Don't want to hi-jack, but this question is about steering. Do steering boxes have a natural zero point... a point that it rests at naturally that is neither left or right? I had to adjust the pitman arm and now the truck pulls to the left pretty bad. Tire pressure check, alignment check, tie-rods check. Just wondering.

Steering box shaft and pitman arms BOTH have centering marks on them on the bottom.

Motor is 22r and has a spot for tensioner pulley. I'll post pics tonight or in the morning. She's a beast. I want to do the high steer, but was under the impression that it would be pointless without having PS, so I got all the PS stuff to start there. Got PS pump, gear box, pulleys, hoses, center link, TRE's, and all bolts included for $200. Couldn't let that pass. Hopefully I'll do high steer before winter. The clunking and resistance while steering just around my drive is why I also decided on the knuckle rebuild. Hopefully I can drive her soon. Just waiting on my knuckle kit to arrive.

something that is quite often overlooked and can make a big difference is worn out steering stabilisers, stock yotas here in the UK have solid axles up to mk3, as standard they only have one small Yota steering stabilser and when they wear out they have little to no impact on bump steer. Another thing that is overlooked is worn shock absorbers, if the shocks are shot they wont dampen out any force acted on the leaf springs while driving, the truck starts to get that roll effect associated with "death wobble" I am running 46" bajas with no death wobble at any speed, I have two uprated steering stabilsers and good working order shocks
Shocks are quite often forgotten about but they serve a purpose, just disconnect one end of the shock or steering stabilser and see how easy it is to push in and out, if its effortless then its time to fit some good ones on there :-)
Hope im not speaking out of turn adding to your thread but I have spent a shed load of time getting my steering right and I know shocks can make a big difference

Shocks need to be replaced for sure, but this is a bigger issue. Got off work later than planned and it's too dark to take pictures. I will try again tomorrow.

Ok, just took a few pics for you guys, but I'm on my way to work for the next ten fun hours. I'll get them up soon. So stoked to get going on this after she's been sitting for over a year.

Ok, trying again, haha.

Looking pretty blown out.

Hoping the knuckle rebuild helps.

Possibly can't tell, but the center link is bent.

Plan on painting a solid color as well, just not sure what yet.

I am keeping the tailgate with the "MENS" sign though!

And finally, never saw one with the speaker grill still in tact, let alone zero cracks in dash.

If this worked, I will post pics of the rebuild and such as well.

No. Pulled them out a while back and just tossed them. New ones will be in there before I drive again. It's been parked for over a year.
