just wondering if it is possible. my crossover didnt turn out very good and i might just buy one from toyonlyswaps. does anyone know if i can install it after the trans is in the truck?

i have a 3" body lift on it so there is a decent amount of clearance. also what size tires will fit with some offset rims and the body lift?

 

I believe I remember reading a swap where someone had to pull the cross over with a body lift and they were able to... not much help though as I don't remember which swap or how much of a body lift.

 

I am not sure but I doubt it. I have a 1.5 lift and I dont think that I could although I didnt try.

 

You can do it. A few colorful metaphors may be heard coming froom you but it can be done. I do not have any lift on my 95 4runner and have done it. It is harder to "worm" it out than it is to unbolt it.

That would be me. With a 1" body lift you can remove and reinstall the ORS cross-over. It is tight, but I did it. As far as a home made cross-over, or one made by another shop, I have no idea.

 

Great to know- I'm worried my homemade might spring a leak someday.

 

Removing the cross-member and placing a jack to move the transmission up and down helps to get it out and back in. If I remember correctly, it only took me about 20 minutes to get it out, and reinstalling was easier. Also, I did not have to loosen the engine mounts, although that could make the job easier.

 

That's good to know. I have a 2 post lift at the house so that should make the job even better. My home made crossover is far from pretty and is also VERY close to the frame rail. I was going to buy one from toyonlyswaps but they don't have any cores to make me one.

Yes I swapped a 3.4 in my 4runner in September of last year . It is very tight with no lift but it is possible. I was doing that this am and it took me just about 2 hrs. Don't even ask why I have had to take it out a couple times.

 

I have 3.4 swapped in a 94 and no body lift. Mine is a homemade crossover and unfortunately... NOT possible to get it out without unbolting crossmember and lowering trans back... not a big deal and as said before only takes about an extra 20 minutes.

 

im a newbie. i just got a 95 4runner with a blown headgasket from my grandpa. im planning on doing a 3.4 swap. if i was to put headers on the motor would i need to do a crossover? ive been searching the forum and cant find anything on it

 

There are no headers available that will fit with a 3.4 swap, though some might be in the works (see slackers thread, though i still think his uses a crossover). So yes, you will need a crossover.
