I bought a 2001 Limited almost exactly a year ago, and I can't figure out what the deal is with the suspension. When I go over a washboard surface, or a series of bumps, it starts bouncing so hard that I almost feel out of control. It feels like the rebound stiffness, or something like that, is way to stiff. It has the original shocks, and 125,000 miles. It doesn't feel like they are shot, basically they just feel incredibly stiff all the time. So it feels great around corners and on flat ground. Is this just the way this suspension was designed?

 

It is a truck. They ride like trucks.

 

What tires do you have? Are they at the correct pressure?

 

I just bought a 1997 4runner and I feel the "bounce" much more than my FJ60 or '84 straight axle mini-truck. I think it's just the way thesuspension was designed.
