Transmission Converter Lockup Issue When Cold

Cold Trans Issue!

I have a 92 3.0 Auto 4Runner.

Just put new solenoids in the trans and when the trans is warm it shifts great but when it's cold it's another story and looking for some feedback.

When the transmission is cold it shifts hard, and has now decided that it wants to lockup the converter when it's in second gear. Only when it's cold. When it locksup I pop it in neutral and slide it back in drive. I may have to do this a few times before it begins shifting properly.

Any idea what would be causing this to happen? Like I said all the solenoids are new and the fluid was changed as well. Any help would be great.

Thanks

The tranny will not engage over drive until its at normal operating temp, therefor it locks up in 2nd, same as if you hit the od off switch, that is normal operation.

When I refer to it locking up I mean it will nearly pull the truck to a stop. If I gas it, it will pull through it doing this or I need to pop it in neutral.

Ok... thats a whole different animal than Torque converter lock-up, sounds like maybe a bad transfer? Just went thru that on mine, drain transfer fluid, and look for metal shavings.
