88 Pickup with strange fuel issue.

Hey Guys,

I recently purchased an 88 toyota pickup and have had encountered a strange fuel issue.

The truck will sputter and run dry out of gas when the fuel gauge indicates a half tank left. I'll push the truck to a gas station and it will only take on ~7 gal of gas before the gas pump will refuse to put any more gas in the tank.(completely topped off)

This has happened about 5 times now, and every time it will only take in about 7 gal, even though the tank should be holding 14+gal when the truck is dyeing from fuel starvation. So i'm sure the fuel gauge is accurate.

Ive had some other issues that required me to swap in a new 22re. The shop replaced the inline fuel filter, cleaned the fuel tank, and re adjusted the pickups in the tank to try and solve the issue. No luck.

So my question is why wont my truck use the remaining half tank of fuel that is in the tank.

The problem seems to be getting progressiveness worse if that's any constellation. When i first bought the truck 4 months ago, it did not have this issue at all. Slowly but surely, its worked its way up to only taking half a tank of gas before running out.

Thanks for the help guys!

Check the evap canister and lines.

Edit - also make sure you have an OEM gas cap.

did they put the little fuel filter screen back on in the fuel tank ?

customer of ours had this issue for months .. and he had repaced everything !! turned out to be the filter in the tank , on the end of the pick up tube
