wheeling on 31's whats possible?

So I have 83 long bed sr5 its running 31x10.5x15 treadwright guard dogs and 2" lift. I'm open front and rear only upgrade is new motor. Stock gears and transfer case.
I want to know how far this set up will get me out on the trails as in how hard core can I get? I do plan on locking the rear with a lockright of some sort soon.
Post pics of you wheeling on your 31's lets see what you can do.
I'm posting this because I don't see many pics of people wheeling on 31's in a toyota.
P.S. i'm not talking mudding I prefer trails, rocks, logging roads, ect.

although a good locker is a good start, the best and first upgrade you should get is a winch. If I put a winch on the front of a lamborghini I could take that fancy sports car everywhere I could go with my truck. I'd have to drag it with the winch, but it would get there.
The skys the limit. Good driver ability will take you lots of places you probally shouldn't be. And the only way to get that is to drive! Happy trails!

The main problem with a winch is Inhave to get the bumper first which costs a lot even of I build it myself. I want to build one like trail gears tube bumpers. Plus the price of a winch. I also never wheel alone I have people with winches go in front of me and If I get stuck they winch me out but that always take time

But I do always try to push the limit of what my truck can do. The same truck went through almost 2 feet of snow with worn down all terrian 30's it made it almost as far as a TJ locked front and rear with 35's granted that very jeep pulled me out several times. Both me and the driver of the jeep were surprised how far the truck made it.

Honestly if you lock it up, you would be flat out AMAZED at what that truck will do.
Imo gears and lockers are the most important mod, then armor so when it does get hairy and you dont have that extra clearance due to a smaller tire you can keep the truck from getting damaged or just plain beat up
I have wheeled all three of my past rigs with 31's when I first got em, they all had open diffs and they all did well. Picking good lines makes all the difference in the world.
Similar wheeling to what you describe, fire/logging roads OHV trails, etc.

I've got a video on youtube about how far 31's will (and won't) go on an unlocked Yota...search "Durkworks sticks a Yota" to see me stuck in Aylesworth pond in Jermyn, Pa. Was going great until I found that submerged stump...

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm still unsure of a locker or winch first though. If I went locker it would be a lock right. And I will be building sliders, rear bumper and front tube bumper soon. I just have to find someone who has a tube bender. And I would have to build my front bumper just to use the winch

Here is a pic of my completely stock 4runner on a snow trip back in January. It's a simple picture but as you can see from the environment it's pretty rocky. . . I made it farther than a modded out heap and just as far as that big a$$ rover behind me =) 31s, stock suspension. This is up at Ellis creek I wanna say, just past Wentworth springs in California.

Well the win h I wanted is as much as a locker and the bumper might cost $100 to buy the tubing. Also there is those occations where I just go messing around in the woods with some friends that don't have winches

The smittybilt xrc-8 winch I have was only $300. Your could get one for $400 that a synthetic rope cable also.





Much cheaper than the winch + bumper. Plus you said your friends already had winches.
