A locker actually makes your rig more capable. A winch saves you in the circumstances when you are not capable. So it's a choice, obviously it's best to have both. Last time I checked a nice Aussie is $311 shipped.

I also have a 83 longbed well ok a no bed on 31s and two inch lift. I take it almost everywhere the bigger rigs go. I just may need a few more pulls.

I suggest the locker

it's better to not get stuck in the first place

you use the locker all the time for every mile you drive v. the winch is only used occationally

Locker is stealthly, no one can see it, truck looks stock but goes everywhere

Locker and a Hi lift jack will get you out of most jams and sliders to keep that first gen body somewhat straight. Reciever hitch winch rigged for front and rear has been on my wish list but haven't "needed" it yet, knock on wood.

I ran 31's for the longest time with no problems except for lack of ground clearance. Armor and a locker is the path I wish I had taken.

Instead I decided to lift, gear it, and put big tires on first.
Now I have to pay for all my mudflap tickets and can't afford to put lockers in it haha.

My buddy has a 4runner and we put a shackle lift on the rear cranked the tbars a tad and welded the rear up. His rig goes more places than mine now.

Weld up that rear and don't look back. Stock 3rds are a dime a dozen

I agree with the sliders that is why my passenger door will not open. But you live and you learn i guess. As for the highlift jack never leave home without it.

Alright. Today I went snow wheeling and it did decently well considering I ran 25lbs in my tires and there was 1-4 feet of snow. My main set back was manual steering we and the ice. I made it through some tough deep snow that was starting to melt. I got it stuck once since it pulled into a snow bank but that just required some shovels really quick

My next round of upgrades is actually sliders, rear bumper, locker, front bumper in that order. sound like a good decision?

Sounds like a good plan. Was gonna say to do the locker first, but then you'd just need to go "test" the locker and end up with jacked body panels. Doors that open and close are a good thing .

On a side note, you get your tuning/fuel consumption issues fugured out?

Alright sounds good. I just gotta find a place with well prices metal. And I think Ingot it tuned up pretty good. CArb is about as good as I think Incan get it it and the timing is about 9-10* with the factory spark plug gap sounds good with pretty good get up and go

Nice. When I lived in western WA I used mine as a skidder as well. Not in the snow, but I dragged a lot of timber with my yota. A decent amount of that was open diff and 31's. Does WAY better now.

Does 10* of timing seem too much? I could have done better up at the mountain with a set of chains.
