I just recently purchased a 85 4 runner with chevy 63s in the rear bobbed 13"...Can anyone tell me why the guy i bought it from has this rediculous rear shackle angle? And how can i correct it? If i move front hanger forward then axle will also move forward which i dont want and there is no more frame in the back where he bobbed it to relocate the shackle...it seems to flex ok as it stuffs 35s in the fenders...Im stumped

Because he bobbed it after putting the 63" chevies on. The long ass shackle is there because the frame is too short to have the correct rear shackle mount.
What did the guy tell you when you bought it?

 

bobbed frames... link the rear and you will be fine

 

Guy said he did it to make it ride better and me being new to the toyota world believed him...will this hurt anything...flex wise? Truck is my soon to be rock toy so will never see the road! Also black 1985 sr5 i would love to link it but funds are telling me to stay this way unless there is another solution?

 

I would probably link the rear, as mentioned above. It's a good looking runner though, regardless of what ya gotta do. TG has a link kit. Plus there is always custom that could be done.

Love the hacked up bootification of the tailgate.

You could add a crossmember/rear bumper across the rear frame rails and move the shackle mount back and it would help.

Or you could just ditch the chevy's.
Im pretty sure fords will fit in the stock rear spring mount.

 

Ok looks like I will be looking to link the rear later on but so far I love it as its my first toyota I always wheeled TJs but I'm impressed with how solid it feels

 

looks like your shocks might be limiting your flex?

Also look into the ford spring swap, iirc they mount 11.5ish forward just like the chebbies but use the stock rear hanger, so it should work perfect for your application, and supposidly they are just as good if not better(departure angle) than the chevies.

as long as the leaf does not contact the frame when suspension is compressed that angle will be fine and actuauly give you more travel on extension as long as your shocks dont top out. the more angle also softens the ride. using chevies and the stock shakle location is also good for dual a shakle set up (hindged) use the rear chevy shakle added to stock toyota (or similar lenght to stock) shackle for very long travel.i believe if something isnt broke and serving your needs dont try to fix it.after all isnt the idea of "its a work in progress" apply to most all toyotas?
