84 carb (g52) to 85-89 sr5 cluster swap. Speedometer WAY OFF
From my understanding swapping to a sr5 cluster the speedo should not have to be re-calibrated.
I have a 84 carbed 4runner and did the sr5 swap to a v6 cluster from a 85-89 v6. The tachometer was accurate (checking against my snap-on timing light; may have been already adjusted by the guy i bought it from), but the speedo is way off.
the speedo climbs way fast (seems like almost exponentially), and when slowing to a stop it will go down really slow and "0" out at about 15mph.
originally it had the 85mph max and the new one has 110mph (with grid lines) if that makes a difference, but it seems like I'm the only one with the speedo calibration problem out of all the swaps i've read.
maybe the speedometer gear is different in the w56/r150 vs. the g52 i have?
thanks in advance,
steve

no they are not different i did this same thing and mine is only off as far as my tire make i other wise it works fine the oil pressure doesnt work because i havent changed the sending unit yet and my fuel gauge i think is bad

I remember seeing something on the bottom of a Toyota speedometer one time that said "60 MPH at x RPMS." I think it was 3000 RPMS, but I am not sure. Maybe see if your speedometers say something like that. If you can get the speedometer gear from the other truck (assuming the gearing and tires were the same stock), you could try swapping that and see what happens.

thanks, i saw the rpm mpg notation on the back of the sr5 speedo. i ended up fitting the stock speedo (cut to fit) where the sr5 was. Kind of ratty looking, but it is better than something that doesn't work.
anyways, i'm switching to a 22re+w56 and going to use the gauge cluster from that, so it won't be a problem any more, haha.
again, thanks for the help.
