my 99 parts truck has no body on it so it is very easy to test fit everything on it. i know the steering shaft would be in the way but i dont think the cross over pipe would go that far down. basically what i am asking is if the frame is similar to my 90 as far as the fitment issues go.

if not how did everyone else do their crossover pipes? maybe just with the engine and trans out of the truck?

 

I don't see any reason you couldn't do it sitting in the frame. Just try it. If it doesn't work, so what- you'll have to pull the motor sometime anyhow.

 

ok not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but if you install headers do you really need the crossover i mean whats it really do? if you run duals all the way down is that a no go? just wondering..dont wanna sound completely stupid.

 

It's really tight down the passenger side to run any kind of exhaust- like impossibly tight. If you run headers, I believe you still have to "crossover" somewhere toward the bellhousing/transmission to the driver side pipe.

 

but why is it necessary to run a crossover at all? is it for emissions or to balance out the engine

It also helps to maintain the back pressure needed for these engines. To run a true dual out to the back would be too free flowing and you would lose quite a bit of your low end torque.

but as mentioned, the main reason in this swap is just lack of room on the passenger side.
