sory maybe not real clear. the radio that came in the fj had an aux jack 3.5mm not part of the head unit itself but in a separate location. I installed this radio in my 4runner without incident. Now I have purchaced a 3.5 mm jack from Radio Shack and tried every combination of wires on the factory plug but no sucscess. It seems really straight foward but for life of me I cannot make this work. I had pictures of this but now it cant find them. Maybe tommorow I can get some more pics. thank you for time.

The factory aux jack on newer Toyota are wired so that the factory head unit only recognizes it if something's plugged into it. Part of the wiring that goes to the factory aux jack has two wires that, when something it plugged into the jack, completes the circuit and tells the head unit that there's something in the aux jack making that source available. The only problem is that the two wires that need to be connected have a resistor between them so the head unit sees a certain resistance telling it to make the aux source available. Unfortunately, I don't know the wire colors, pin outs or the resistance value. It takes me 5 minutes to figure it out in a customer's car when I've got everything in front of me.
Hopefully this will get you going in the right direction.

Thanks Areohh I may piddle a little more with this. I belive ive read on this site in another thread somewhere that ther is some sort of filter between the head unit and the aux plug in the fj. could this be what the factory head unit is looking for?
