New to Toyota, but liking it so far!!!

Yesterday i purchased a 1989 4runner with 22RE w/ 5 speed. It has 205ka on the clock and it runs great minus a rough idle. It makes a little top end noise but looking through the forum I've noticed this was "normal". I've gotta tell ya that ive been a Ford man all my life but have always heard that Toyotas are legendary for reliability and toughness. Its just tbat in my area they tend to get rusty and seriously abused / neglected. This one is in pretty good shape with a few dings and a little surface rust below the taillights. Transmission shifts great, clutch is solid, brakes are phenominal, steering tracks impeccably straight without bumb steer, power delivery is smooth and linear.

Yeah this ones a keeper!!!

yea bud you gonna love it in the summer when u can take that top off and just cruise! but with 205k miles you might have to do a timing chain and head gasket soon if it hasnt already been done but dont let that scare you, its simple to do if your mechinically inclined and after that your good for another 200k+ miles! welcome to yotatech also!

Ive seen them before. I think they come from mom and pop tire shops. Im looking to upgrade to an A/T pretty soon. I dont have much faith in an all season highway tire but dont need mudders as i dont plan to do more than some simple trails at best. Definatly dont want to tear it up.

Edit: BTW where can i find the relay for the rear window so i can partake in some summer fun witht the top off?

That looks great! Glad you like it. I got mine last October or so and I did the timing chain and head on it right away. It's going good now. I'm just trying to get used to the "power" of the 22RE. It's weird having to pretty much floor my vehicle wherever I go! My Dad is familiar with older Japanese vehicles and he said that was normal.

Welcome to Yotatech, Friend!

Your 'Runner looks quite solid. What are your plans with it?

well if i get the 22re i want to lift it and get 33's or 35's on it and do some work to it and get it ready to go wheelin ...but i have a chance to buy this 95 4runner with a 3.4 swap and it is already to go wheelin with the lift and tires already on it...so im undecided...but anyway good luck and have fun

Well first things first, im scheduled for the 15th to have a nice audio system installed, at least the head unit anyway. Nothing to fancy. Just some Kicker 5.25 in the doors and 6x9 rear, JVC Arsenal head unit, Kicker amp, and Kicker 10" CVT. As mentioned earlier im going to put some A/T tires in a 31x10.5x15. Fabricate a light bar above the rear of the cab. Window tint. Zuk mod even though there isnt much sag. Restore paint and body........ the list goes on. Nothing too wild.
