Electric heater conversion/add-on, anyone done it?

I have my dash torn apart all the way down to the heater core and will be driving it soon in the winter months, I was looking at the possibility of an electric heater in the dash for instance heat since most of my driving it about 10 mins or so and it may heat up toward the end of the trip. Has anyone done one of these? I have looked around and haven't seen too much about it or many products.

Edit: 84 4runner

I've come up with a couple things since digging around in google. It seems that a simple ceramic heating element from a normal space heater is what seems to be working the best. Not sure on the power level what would be good enough for a 4runner. 1500 watts seems to be a pretty common one for electric cars.

Things that are not known yet:
best way to control the heat
Getting the correct voltage and type for it
Alternator upgrade to allow this kind of power
Battery upgrade as well? (not sure)
Incorporate into the blower box of the ducting system in the truck (pass side kick panel area) or replace water heater core and place elements there

I think this would be an awesome mod to any of these truck since it does take a while for them to heat up and since it is winter it seems much more appealing to have instant heat.

Something like these are available too:
