1997 Toyota 4-Runner Cruise Control Problem

When I use my cruise control in my 1997 Toyota 4-Runner SR5 Automatic it stops working after about 15 seconds. I can live with out it but it would be nice to have again for long trips.

Any suggestions or solutions would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Check that all your lights are working. I had a burned out turn rear signal, and any time I activated blinker my cruise would shut off. I think it's because of the burned out bulb altering the circuit, and making the cruise think you hit the brakes.

Ya just check all your fuses blubs plugs etc, from my experience even a bad master cylinder on my clutch caused the Cruise Control to stop working

Cruise Control Problems

I have also been having a problem with my cruise control but the issue appears to be from a different source that the usual fuse, brake light switch or tail light out. I have had three modules fail or appear to fail in exactly the same fashion. The original unit failed by initially working intermittently with it returning to activity after I would stop and turn off the engine. This problem got worse until it would not engage at all. I installed a used unit and it worked just fine for two years before it failed in the same manner. I installed the second used unit hoping for at least two years of service but it failed in two days.
My 4R is a 1996 v-6 automatic with 230K+ miles. Still runs well and I would like to solve the cruise issue.
