1982 Fuel pump leaking 22R

Hey guys. . . still a 1st gen newbie, but have been getting TERRIBLE gas mileage (10mpg) with the new truck I bought. I figured it was the 32/36 with Headman headers and de-smog from previous owner; however, after installing a new front main seal (the 7mm kind) I noticed some "drip-drip" when I was watching the engine run. Sure enough, there is fuel dumping from the bottom of my pump.

It's coming from that little hole and seal in the bottom (as seen in the photos below). In fact, it's dumping about 2fl.oz in 10 minutes. I have the Mr. Gasket pressure regulator between the pump and carb set to 2.5. Should a new pump fix this issue or does something else more important need to be addressed?

after re-reading... looks like an early warning system to pump replacement. I'll call NAPA tomorrow for a price on a replacement

Why do you have a Mr Gasket FPR between a mechanical pump and your carb???

That's what everyone seems to do...PO had it set that way. Is that wrong?

Picked up new pump at NAPA and the truck runs a lot better! The throttle response is great - no more hesitation. Hopefully I'll start getting more than 10mpg! The oil was changed 500 miles ago, but don't know how long the pump has been leaking. I think the new oil is safe. I replaced the cork oil pan gasket and when I drained the oil it was still clean looking and not diluted.

The only project left is to figure out why my choke won't automatically open the plates unless I bump the throttle...sigh. They're closed when I start up, but will only progress each time I bump the gas, so there is no smooth and automatic progression. Read ALL weber/ redline documentation to no avail.
