22re will not crank after head gasket replacement
First let me say hello to everyone! Now the problem, just did the head gasket on a 94 22re. this required removing the wiring harness in the engine compartment and off of the trans (manual). Put it all back together and tried to turn the engine over without the distributor hooked up to prime the oil pump, no go! I can hear what i guess is a relay clicking behind the glove box, but the engine will not crank. as far as i know the wiring harness is connected properly and I never touched the wiring for the starter motor. I did replace the fuel filter while it was easy to get to. everything else is working lights, radio, etc. Any help as to were to start looking would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you mean the solenoid on the starter is clicking? Check your battery and make sure it has voltage. Check all of your grounds that go to the block.
Why did you have to remove the engine harness? Kinda seems like more work to me..but I've never owned a 94 so..

Likely you are hearing the Circuit Opening Relay (COR) clicking beside the glove box. That is normal, but check the voltage at the starter solenoid to see if it is getting power:

And make sure that control wire is actually connected to the starter solenoid and that your engine and frame grounds are also connected.

reply to engine won't crank
Thanks guys, I believe i have found the problem. there is a wire with a BLACK connector that comes out of the wiring harness with the knock sensor and another wire that goes to a sender below the oil filter, i have those hooked up. unfortunately i cannot locate the mate for this other wire. anyone know where this wire hooks up?

If you turn the key and there isnt a clicking nose then check wiring( Wires on starter, the power and solenoid wires, etc.). Make sure your battery isnt dead. If all of the above is fine and it clicks but just wont turn over, then try giving the starter a good wack while someone is trying to crank it. If it then turns over you will probably need to replace the starter.
Id also check things like a neutral safety switch, Make sure things of that nature are alright.
