Just bought a 91 p/u and have a power steering question

I was wondering if I could buy a smaller belt and do away with the ps or is that not possible?? I've never changed a ps pump, just need a quick fix for now...

I believe that the P/S pump is also the belt tension adjustment. If thats the case you cant do away with it, otherwise you would have to "roll" a smaller belt onto the crank and w/p pulleys, with no way to ever adjust the tension...

If the P/S pump is permanently affixed and not used as a tensioner for that belt, then you could prob get away with a smaller belt and eliminating the pump on that belt. But if its a moveable, tensioner unit pump, then yeah, I would suggest changing it... Some pics would tell me better. Since this is the '84-'85 section, you may wanna check in the '91 section. Be sure to list your engine size...

P/s question 91 p/u

I was wondering if I could do away with my p/s by buying a smaller belt and not use the p/s pulley. It's a 22re. I'm new to all this, just a noob question I guess..

Dah...if you remove the belt, nothing else happens, you just lose your power steering(pump's no longer being driven). Unless that same belt is driving something else, like say an A/C compressor. In which case, bye-bye A/C too. As long as you have an alternator belt you're good to go(since that one drives the cooling fan too, and the water pump if 22R-E).
