Question Trying to put my father in CPO 4 Runner, can you give me your collective advice?

great to be here everybody. My fathers SUV history goes something like this: Several Jeeps too a Grand Wagoneer too a Denali XL and now hopefully too a 4 Runner.

We are looking for something certified preowned and expect to pay a bit more because of this but think it's a good idea. Feel free to try to change my mind if you like

the budget is 30-35K which i assume puts us well out of the certified preowned Land Cruiser group. Is that true?

Can you tell me what I should expect to see and hear given that price range? Live in NYC but willing to travel a bit if you think it's going to make a big difference.

I am sure this is asked a million times but could someone tell me if the 4 Runner is something a 63 year old man should be in?

My father gave me simple instructions. Find someting in the 30-35K price range that's a mid size SUV. I like Toyota over a lot of the competition but I'm concerned as to repair costs and how they hold up in general. Anything you can tell me to put me at ease or steer me away from this choice please do. Thanks again for reading through this rabble

Welcome!
$30,000-$35,000 or $3,000-$3,500?
I don't think you'll find a whole lot of info on newer 4Runners here, this site is mostly older Toyotas, however I do recommend: www.toyota-4runner.org They seem to be mostly newer 4Runners, and will probably have a lot of good advice.

Anyone please chime in if I'm wrong!

No problem. I'm sure you've already check out this site: www.toyotacertified.com/index.html From the looks of it a CPO Land Cruiser would be out of your 30-35K price range (although i did see one on there for $35,500). Have you considered an FJ Cruiser? They' seem to be in your price range.

i'd definitely recommend an early 2000s 4Runner if you've got $$ like that to spend. the 4Runner is one of the few vehicles still built in Japan. read a little more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_...0.93present.29

the t4r.org site is a good forum for the newer vehicles. good luck.

If you are looking to spend that much money just go buy a brand new 2011 4Runner. That's what I would do.

Does that budget include the sale tax in NY? One thing I hated about being stationed/living in NY was getting taxEd every time you turned around.

For that kind of $$ you should be able find something close to new. Just do the usual inspection process especially since you may end up with one that has already experienced a season of salt....maybe pick up a southern vehicle.

You can get a brand new 2011 4Runner SR5 for around $30,000.

Done, and done.
