needing emissions/vacuum line help
#1
Hello i recently bought a 78 2wd short bed 20r 5spd. a couple vacuum lines were disconnected and some ports were plugged on the carb. for best mpg, should i take emissions out (smog pump/ carbon canister), or rerun all of the vacuum lines? any advice would help, thank you

The emission system on my truck has been the hardest thing for me to figure out. If you don't need to worry about passing emissions standards where you live, I'd vote for getting rid of it all.
Do some searching.
I have the factory service manual for my 83, and it does not answer half of my questions about the vacuum/emissions system, so good luck!
If you post photos of what's plugged or disconnected, someone around here might be able to tell you where it goes.

It depends...
I think that if the emissions system is functioning properly, then everything is working as it should and you might get better gas mileage. But by now, so much of the stuff is plugged up or broken, and some of it I don't even think you can buy anymore, that it is NOT functioning correctly.
I think that realistically, for most of us with these old trucks, getting rid of the emissions will help with gas mileage. There is a thread in this section about getting rid of all the emissions on a 22R. Probably not much different from your truck. But check around and do some searching, I only know so much...
