1st Gen 4runner - what can you haul?

Can you guys with the 1st gen 4runners haul stuff in the bed like sheets of plywood or drywall? I know the rollbar would limit the width but maybe if you put it in at an angle?
Do the seats fold flat? Is the rollbar welded in or bolted?

I used to have a 91 pickup and a BMW and sold both and bought an 05 tacoma.
I miss having a fast little car to drive and the great gas mileage. I commute 50 miles a day round trip and its costing me 60-70 a week in the 05.
Im thinking of selling the 05 and getting a 4runner and another BMW but not sure if I can find an older truck that will haul 2 kids or lumber and crap when I need to. I dont haul stuff for work just for home projects DIY kinda stuff. Thought of just getting a trailer but I'm really starting to dig 1st gen 4runners more and more and the 05+ taco is nowhere near the quality of the 91 I had.

Thanks and sorry for the newb questions.

Um...hauling stuff?

Yes, the seats fold down.
Yes, the roll bar is bolted in.
Even with the seats down, it's only a six foot "bed" so stuffing a 4x8 sheet of plywood or drywall is not very efficient.

I haul two kids with car seats around just fine. Plus a HUGE recovery/fluids storage box and hilift in the back. I have just enough room to haul groceries, tools and other odds ends. Which is still about 300% more room than any jeep jeep

I'd get a trailer.....

I understand the plywood would stick out the back a couple feet but just want to make sure it will fit width-wise. A 4x8 sheet sticks out of my truck now so Im OK with that.

I guess I will have to get a trailer eventually, just never used one so trying to avoid it till I have to.

Width, I do not believe a sheet of plywood would fit. I couldnt get a sheet of 1/2" in the back of my '95 and I'm pretty sure 1st gens are a narrower. It only wouldnt fit because of how the rear kind of wraps around. I think the plywood was probably an inch or two too wide for the tailgate opening. Maybe invest in a roof rack. I have hauled plenty of plywood on my Yakima bars

I'm thinking a trailer will be a must have if I get a 4runner. I didn't even think of hauling gravel, dirt or mulch.

I hate being undecided, it's not like me at all but I have been through 4 or 5 vehicles in the last 2 years.

Did the seat have to come off to get the quad back there? looks like a tight squeeze either way.

Seats fold down....

If you pulled the roll bar out...which I wouldn't...you MIGHT be able to slide a 4x8 sheet of whatever in...but probably not...
