Swimmerboy2112's 1991 Pickup Build Thread

Well yesterday I sold my 1999 Mitsubishi Galant (it wasn't practical) and picked up this lil guy. It's a 1991 Toyota Pickup, 5spd, 22re, single cab. It has 208,XXX miles on it but has a rebuilt motor with 5000mi on it. It has tint on the doors, rear slider and about 8" down the front windshield. The doors have some rust on the bottom corners as does the bed but all in all it's pretty solid. Has BF Goodrich A/T's 31x10.5's on Cragar Soft 8's.

This thread will be me doing mostly little things to make her up to my standards. Here is a list of what i'll be doing in the near future.

-SR5 gauge cluster
-Bucket seats
-New lower control arms (the passenger side is rotted, i will replace the drivers side too.)
-Fix locking hubs (the drivers side is hard to turn to lock)
-Remove windshield tint strip
-Put "TOYOTA" decal on the tailgate (what color?)
-New tail light to replace the cracked passenger tail light
-TRD Decals on the bed
-Front bumper (not sure which)
-Rear bumper (not sue which)

Yes the rust battle will be a arduous battle indeed, I hate rust!

And yeah I guess I should edit the title, don't wanna see anyone else confused lol

haha ill have to take some but honestly, it's not that bad. If I can fit my 6'7" frame behind the wheel of a single cab pickup, I don't ever want to hear anyone else on here complain about leg room!

Here's the secret, SEARCH. I browse Craigslist like crazy! That's how i find these deals. But this pickup I got off a guy I know who works at an offroad store. I paid $2500 but that was with a freshly rebuilt engine. Not to mention he threw in so many new parts that I could literally re-build my front end & radiator.

As far as paint goes, it's gonna stay black for now (anything is subject to change). Gonna find some new doors and possibly a fiberglass bed for her then i'd consider painting.

I don't believe that the second-gen lenses are the same, i'll have to pop one off my 4Runner to double check. If they are though, I'll take one in a heartbeat. Thanks!

Had a few spare minutes during my lunch break and took a look. The frame is solid, the only rusty/cancer area is the bar that connects the frame where the exhaust hangars and gas tank hangers are mounted.

oh, my suggestion for the "toyota" on the back: make the tailgate as glossy as possible, and "toyota" in flat black. i've seen it on police cars, and it looks sweet.

that, or yellow

It's kinda black like that now, I don't like it. I'm torn between yellow and red.

yellow. everyone does red stuff (even me), but you're known for yellow. also, you can interchange parts that are painted, like wheels or seats

i think i'll hop on photobucket whenever i get the chance

(ps- one of your first pics has the license plate fully visible)
