On 3rd slave cylinder, why do they keep leaking?
#1
I bought a 1990 pickup recently had it for about a month now. About a week ago the slave cylinder blew going down the freeway. I bought a new one and was working great for about a week. Then that one started to leak out the rubber boot where the rod comes out to push on the arm to disangage the clutch. So I replaced that one and now today it did it again. So does anybody know what the problem is I did a search on here and google and could find nothing. I havn't replaced the master yet because the stock one looks like better than the one I got from napa. Thanks in advance and sorry for any spelling mistakes I'm posting from my phone.

Is it a big difference? I got it from napa from my buddy who works there for 18 bucks lol so I figured I'd try it. Anyways I have a napa master too if I put that in would it counter it since they are both crapier lol?

Advance auto parts hydraulics are a big no-no. I have had this same trouble with brake and clutch cylinders. Best is to get OEM, whether from Toyota or the actual manufacturer. AutohausAZ.com has some high quality units. I believe Adler is the actual manufacturer of many Honda and Toyota hydraulics (have one in my Accord, it's got a couple years of use with no issues after the Autozone one crapped out in 6 months).

Wow, three years later and the price of an OEM mc from an online u.s. vendor has tripled. Now $115. What's up with the price hikes? I need a new one as well and will have a hard time affording that. Any other reasonable vendors recommended? May end up having to go with the Napa (ultra 8 brand) for 50 bucks.

I suppose our lovely currency does explain a few things, though sometimes it seems like those companies (eg the one recommended earlier in the thread) are playing stealership too.
After looking up the Aisin part no for my truck (86 22re 4runner 5spd takes Aisin cmt003) found it on rock auto. Came out to less than $30 with shipping.
Thanks for the quick reply Wyoming, you just saved me $100.

Also that the slave for the 22R/E and 3vz SC has become an uncommon part since the introduction of 5vz and 3rz generations and Toy would rather have you buy a newer generation by gouging, Its the same with the CAT going for over 1K$ at the toy dealer.
I got the autozone SC and the lifetime warrenty is great, The SC cost $13 and at that price I rather take the chance several times then spend $80+ w/o warrenty from Toy dealer.
I am actually going through this same problem with the MC, Still feel better spending less with a warrenty for the MC at AZ then Toy stealer.
When I install my SC I I push it all the way in and rub lithium grease in it.

Same thing happend to me. Bought a cheap slave cylinder for my 81 pickup on Rock auto and within a week it was leaking. They sent me a new one (same brand) and it has lasted a year now. Weak quality control.
I put an Aisin slave on my 4 runner and it has been fine from day one. They aren't that expensive.
