yeah-the 87 is a 2nd gen cab(84-88)
the 89 is a 3rd gen(89-95.5) so yep there are some obvious visual differences...

1988 was the first year of that crappy 3.0 V6. Also remember that the 4Runners ran from 84-89 and the trucks of that same body style ran from 84-88 and in 89 the trucks got the new body style while the 4Runner did not change until 1990.

got the truck. drives good handles decent ( suspension is stiffer than ) 230 something miles, doesn't have that tick tick tick noise.

bad- bed is FUBAR not worth all the sheet metal work
fuel guage doesn't work (maybe sending unit or fuse but pump works)
suspension - shocks are good but to small and it rides like a dump truck
looks like the valve cover gasket is bad ( got a new one in my eb-master kit)
Exhaust is a joke has a glasspack alum taped in place and wire strands holding it (nothing i can't fix)

when i hit a hard bump CEL and some other lights came on (did this maybe 2 times hasn't happened again)

Overall - im digging what it's about to look like after i paint it and throw on a toytec lift
gonna be a DD and wheeler) It Even has window vents, sliding window, and STOCK MUD FLAPs

Well you do have a hard to find long bed on your truck. Those years are hard to find in longbeds, cool though.

my 89 has one but i'm going flatbed for this thing.

basic 2" lift 2BL to gain some access to the starter and other parts. no bigger than a 33. gonna keep this one simple and use my 89 as a hardcore wheeler

is that bolted to the bumper? if so, thickwalled doesn't matter, your still limited to what the bumper can hold.

1st gen = different. 4" lift will clear 35's easy on an IFS truck. Heck with just a torsion crank on the front of mine a few hammers and a valance removal I fit 33's and most like my stance. The front I would say is a little over 1" taller due to torsion crank, rear is raked maybe 2.5" total, with the flatbed and no fenderwells in addition to extra weight I carry I needed it. No body lift here BTW.
