Need some advice in regards to my coil packs.
The idiot, check engine, light came on, I had the computer scanned and found that Cylinders 1 & 4 where miss firing.
Got a used coil pack, off a 2003 tercel and have same issue.
Please know, I'm not mechanically illiterate, just not up to speed on this "No timing or distributor" system.
Although I am working on it.

Question #1: Are the 1-4 & 2-3 packs interchangeable?
Question #2: If packs are interchangeable, and problem persists, where do they get their signal from? IE, speed sensor, timing sensor, what have you.

And yes, plugs and wires already changed. Just thought I would ad that for clarity.

Yes, the coil pack are interchangeable.

 

Could be an injector problem also

 

Try moving the coil pack around and see if the problem follows it. That would be the first step.

 

1) Well, 2-3 is not a coil pack pair. It's 1&4, 3&6,5&2. The difference is always three between halves of a pair. That said, they are interchangeable.
2) from the Engine Control Module, via the igniter. Look at the second page in the link.

Thank you for the responses. The truck is a four cylinder, so just two coil packs. Did install other pack, pulled #1 wire off @ the coil pack, the miss fire is coming from the pack. So now I need to find where the pack gets its signal from.

 

If the pack is the problem why do you care where the wiring to the pack comes from, just replace the pack.

 

Because the problem is to the pack. If you were following, this is the third pack installed.
Problem still persists. The odds of three packs with same problem are slim.

If you moved the pack and the misfire followed it then that means the pack is the problem and not the wiring since you are using different wiring when you move the pack. Thats the whole point of moving the pack, to test the wiring.

 

Sorry, the problem DID NOT follow the pack. The intermittent firing stays @ the # 1 cylinder. I guess I was not clear on that.

Oh, ok now it makes more sense. Then sounds like either an eletrical problem or an ECU problem.
