Do Tacoma and 4runner Hitch Receivers Interchange?

Would my 97 4runner receiver work on a 95.5 - 04 Tacoma? I have a feeling it should, since the frames are the same. But can anyone verify this?

Not even close.

4Runner has coils. Taco has leaf springs.

The frames aren't even remotely the same. Who told you that?!!

4Runner trailer hitches bolt to the bottom side of the frame. Tacoma trailer hitches bolt to the side of the frame. Main reason being the leaf spring perches on the Tacomas.

I am 150% sure the 4Runner hitch will NOT work on the Tacoma. I have personally verified this.

Doesnt single cab tacoma frame = 4runner frame? If not, guess I learned something new. Never even thought about the leafs, that makes sense

Almost. Middle crossmembers are different (4Runner has an extra crossmember). Suspensions are different (leafs / links). The wheel base on the 4Runner is 1" longer. 4Runner frame is fully boxed.. etc..

Used to be short-bed pickups and 4runners shared frames, back in the 1st gen days. But the Tacomobile is something different. I'm pretty sure of this, but not 150% sure.

4Runners and Short bed pickups never shared frames. Ever.

4Runners and Pickups have never shared frames, ever, in the history of 4Runners/Trucks.

At the very minimum, can/body/bed mounts are different between 4Runners and Trucks.

If you say the body or bed mounting brackets are the only difference how does one tell the difference when they have been removed on a 1st generation 4Runner

Just curious With a metal glue gun and hot wrench almost anything is interchangeable . If one has the know how.

Not that it makes much difference
