T-case/Transmission gasket question??

I had my w-56 transmission rebuilt and then bolted on the t-case. I had to take the t-case back off because the mechanic had to go back into the transmission. When I did this, the new gasket between the transfer case and transmission ripped. The mechanic said not to worry about using another gasket, and put it back together without a gasket. He recommended just using RTV between the two units.

Question, If I don't use a gasket, will I have problems?? or should I buy a new one and install it?

I would appreciate your help

My guess is you'll get a mixed bag of responses on this one, 87....

I too have an 87, .... I was told by MOST people, through they're experiences, "I always use only RTV, as do most shops, anyhow,..... never had a leak!" ..... I went anyhow to Cabe Toyota and Napa for the 3rd gaskets and Input shaft seal and Bearing Retainer/Seal Housing Gasket, anyway, hahaha.... I figure, if mine went 250K with a gasket without a single drip(I know, not always the case)... I might as well re-do what the thing had off the lot......... probably just me being silly, lol....but whatever, I feel better. All 3 gaskets and OEM seal cost me like 30$, total. Can't imagine one gasket would cost you more than 15$ at Napa?
