Alternator shot after timing belt change????
So late last week I changed out my timing belt on my '91 4Runner. Everything went great. Nothing mechanical at all is wrong. The next day i was driving it and it starts to loose power and then just dies. The battery seams to be fine, and the truck runs normal if the battery is fully charged. i came to the conclusion that my alternator is not charging the system. I did all the checks and it does seem that the alternator is gone. And i'm fine with that it is just weird that it would go when I changed the Timing belt. Any ideas?

Just curious what all checks did you do?
Did you have the alternator off when you did the timing belt.
With all the places that test alternators . Have you had it tested??
Could just be bad luck.
I have had corrosion on the alternator plug cause a no charge issue or the wire coming off the B terminal Is just so old and brittle it just stops conducting from being moved around.
Good luck

Sounds a little strange but if it is the OE alternator it was probably nearing the end of it's life anyway moving it around when you did the belt may have finished it... you might also have a belt slip issue did you put new belts on when you finished the T belt?

This exact thing is going on with me. My 91 3.0
Changed the timing belt everything went great. But once it was all back together the Alternator has gone. Just this week. I was wondering if you figured it out?? I did use a hose to clean some things when it was apart but nothing more extreme than before.

Sometimes the heat/cool damage caused by normal operation can make the internals in the alternator/regulator "brittle". While they remain fine as long as you don't move them too much the shaking caused when you remove the belts and or device itself causes the brittle parts to fail.
It is the same with a lot of things ... they work fine until someone touches them then they go kaput.
