What did you have to do to get it running? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Adjust throttle position sensor? Check AFM?

Idling up and down like that my first guess would be vacuum leaks.

Check and adjust the idle, if its set to high it will caous this problem. Also check the TPS, makes sure its not bad and that its properly adjusted.

I would clean the iavc first then check for vacuum leak or check the voltage on tps

A fluctuating idle is a sign of a significant vacuum leak.
If it does it warm and cold, I'd start checking around the brake booster and valve cover.
