I was told this t-case came from a 1990 Pickup with the 22RE. One side has exposed bearings and shaft and I'm wondering if this is normal or if there's any sort of plate that conceals them. Can anyone see anything missing from this tcase in these pix? Also, what is the name/model of this tcase? I tried searching, but found nothing. :-\

I'll be using it for a Tacoma 3.4L engine/tranny swap into a 1995 4Runner.

 

Looks like a forward shift tcase.

You'll need to convert it to top shift and acquire the proper V6 adapter.

Pardon my ignorance (still a bit new to the Toyota stuff), but does "forward shift" refer to the two "F" shaped shifters that protrude from the forward side of the case just above those exposed bearings? Is that issue resolved by installing this: http://www.inchwormgear.com/store/pr...oducts_id=1009

the exposed bearings are normal when the TC is apart from the transmission..I have 3 or 4 sitting on my garage floor looking just like that...except all mine are top shift

 

I just turned the shaft and one of those bearings are rotating at the outer race. If I push against the outer race, then the inner race rotates as expected so the bearing isn't seized, but I'm wondering if that is normal too?

You asked previously in the thread if you could use the Top Shift Conversion Kit on this case, I just want to let you know that you can convert this case to top shift with this kit. Also you asked about the shaft and bearing rotation, it should rotate in the center and the outside of the bearing should stay stationary,what you are describing is normal unless there is excessive movement between the bearing and case itself.
It is normal for these cases to be exposed in the front until installed into the truck.
