This guy followed me home yesterday.



$2000 - with 193k miles and 110K on the engine. 3.4, 5 Speed and e locker.

Runs like a top but the suspension is a rockin'. I can grab the roof rack and shake the car fairly easily. It also nose dives fairly bad when you hit the brakes hard.

Should I replace just the shocks and struts or should I replace the front and rear springs too? Suggestions would be appreciated - going for the budget/quality ratio stock or slightly stiffer rear springs for towing a small trailer.

 

the 3rd gen Runner is struts up front. Meaning the shock body is contained within the spring.

So if you're going to do the shock anyways-may as well do the spring at same time.

The options and opinions are endless. I would encourage you to read the Sonoran Steel website for a wealth of info on lifting 3rd gen Runners.

For a good budget lift spring in back I would point you at Old Man Emu 906 or 890 springs. 891 springs are a bit stiffer, I had them for awhile and was glad to trade them for 890s which ride a bit better for my situation-usually an unloaded back end.

Be aware also that for towing, some guys have found adjustable air bags within the springs to be a nice and not expensive alternative.

Replacing the rear shocks can be a pain, again opinions vary. Many choices in shocks as well.

Page backwards in this very sub-forum or over on T4R and you will see that lifts are covered repeatedly. There is a nice sticky over on T4R called "About rear sag".
