92 Pickup Engine Swap 3VZE

Hey, guys!! I posted this in another forum first by mistake.

I've used the search function, and can't find any info on this, so if it's been answered before, I apologize in advance.

My son has a 92 Toyota 4x4 Extended Cab Pickup with the 3VZE engine and 5-speed transmission.

The truck has over 350,000 miles on it, and the engine is about to give up. Compression check, both wet and dry, pretty much points to valve or valve train problems. A rebuild or replacement engine is the right solution at this time, but he's kinda tight on finances.

I've found a 3VZE out of a 92 Lexus, 165,000 miles, for a good price locally.

My question is this: Will the Lexus engine fit his truck?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Yes it will fit. You need to save the truck wiring and put it on the other engine. Figure on saving and reusing all electrical parts.

your old engine is not worth saving.

You better look at that Lexus again. It should have a 3VZ-FE which is a DOHC 24v motor.

The SOHC 12v 3VZ-E only came in trucks.

it will with a 3.4 intake manifold and the bottom end should be the same. however this can nickel and dime you to death. cl is your friend and the fe motor would be sweet but not as simple as a aswap as the 12 valve motor

Thanks, Blake.

That's exactly what I needed to hear.

The engine I found was a CL ad, by the way.

We're looking for quick and inexpensive, and though I have the skills to do the upgrade (ASE Certified in 1974), I have neither the time nor the desire to make this a long, drawn-out process. Both my son and I work full-time jobs, so we pretty much need this to be a "wham-bam, thank you ma'am" project.

Many thanks to all who responded!!!

Thumbs up

well u can always take the same path i did. i have an 89 p/u with a 3vze and i blew the hg on the 13th of this month(my birthday lucky me). did a little lookin around on CL and came across a 93 ext p/u that was a recent salv title due to an accident and became a complete parts truck with 31,000 on the motor, 210,000 on the frame for $800. i pulled motor, tranny, ecu, harness and a few other misc items sold the 93 and did the swap in about 3-4 days.. would have been fasttser but works slow so money for parts(hoses, oil, cap, rotor, etc) was a factor.
