CV Boot Replacement but autolocking hub cover stuck!!

Getting my 92 V6 4x4 ready to drive to Alaska. Did a timingbelt change last week, and in the few days since my passenger side outer CV boot ripped open. Bummer.

I'm following the Hanes manual to change the CV boot. I got the nuts off, and the cone washers, but something is holding the cover on. Every manual I have looked at and even the toyota mechanic told me this cover should just come off, but mine is locked on by what I don't know. I have used a brass hammer, and three other hammers to pry with all my might, but I have only moved the cover about 1cm of a the 2cm post. I have tried moving the posts by banging on them with the a brass post with no luck.

I then tried the driver side wheel to see if that cover would just come off as it says in the manual, but it was the exact same. It seems to me that this must be related. Just bought the truck about two months ago, and I don't know much of its history.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I don't understand what could be holding this cover on. I believe this cover can only interact with is the posts. What else could hold it on?

I would love to hear any ideas. I am stumped right now.

I'm thinking of replacing the entire driveshaft due to these complications, but must first get the cover off!
Thanks

Your having trouble removing the round cap that covers the center? I just swapped out mine for manual hubs last week so everything is pretty fresh in my mind. Heres a pic of mine with the cap off. Is this cap the problem? Did you remove the bolt underneath it?
