rear axle stock or upgrade

I'm wondering how many people have had trouble with stock rear axles on their 2nd gen 4runners. Mine has longs in front but stock in the rear, and I've been considering going with something like the TG chromoly rears for security. It's just that the rear axle shafts never seem to be as big a concern and don't get treated.

I've seen em bust numerous times. Seen chromoly rears with twisted splines. Depends on how heavy your right foot is. Easy upgrade.

Supposedly stock rear shafts will take 38" tires.

So the chromoly shafts are better and a worthwhile upgrade? It seems odd that Bobby wouldn't offer them, only TG. I don't see going any bigger than 38" on this rig. I'm not really into tubbing the wells.

I've been told the same thing before, that the chromos are only worth it if you run bigger than 38s and/or drive like a nutjob.

They don't exist in 5-lug apparently. I'd thought that those racing nuts with 2wds would be blowing through shafts but I guess not.
