Should I buy a taco?

After all the problems I've had with my XJ, I'm considering switching back to Toyota (used to own an '89 truck and loved it).

I've got a buddy who is selling his 2000 Tacoma TRD sr5 extended cab 4x4 (manual, V6) The truck in really clean and has been regularly maintained through the same shop since he got it new. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that it has about 240K on it. He is a geologist and would regularly have jobs hundreds of miles away.

I would get it for $3800 including a shell. It runs well. What do you guys think?

YES. buy it. that's a great price too, but i'm used to looking at CA prices and you'd be lucky to find a 3rd gen pickup for that price/condition. if its well maintained you should be good to go - and you know the guy, so he'd most likely know everything about it and could possibly answer your questions in the future should they arise. lt's like the perfect combo for a tacoma IMO - xcab, trd, v6, 5spd, shell, mostly all hwy miles, well maintained, not abused, and you know the previous owner who's giving you a good deal.

I understand you are looking at the high miles, but, around here (N.E. Ohio) you would give approx $6000 for that thing.....If you could find one....
