First yota build 87

hey guys, so i got my hands on two sr5 toyotas, and i am making one out of the two, the 87 has a 22r motor that has been carbed. with that being said, it was also owned by some tweekers, and they decided 1 bolt in the trans was good enough to drive it.. long story short im buying a new clutch and pressure plate. along with a water pump. the motor sounds great. no knocks or anything, but there is a water jacket or something on the back of the motor that is leaking water. what is the right name for it? so i can get a seal at autozone. it is a 5 speed, and is suppose to be slip posi on the front and rear. The body is decent, has some cancer spots on the bed, but i am going to cut whats bad out and replace it with metal from the other bed. I will post pictures soon, and hope some of you guys will take interest and educate me along with share the experience. The plan, is mild lift, and a redbull theme to the paint job.http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c7.../yota/yota.jpg

Hey man, pretty cool, and trippy bumper! Far as the 'ahhh, this'll do' findings you've come across>>> DANG TWEEKERS! lol....

Sounds like a good plan, thus far, and yet, I'm not sure exactly where you're speaking of on the 'water jacket at the back of the motor"......???? More specific? On the block? Or a hard coolant hose in the rear firewall area? Coming out of the firewall? Please fill us in, ...and welcome to Yotatech, Country! .............

PS> that CAT pic is hilarious! lol.

I'm wondering if he is talking about a freeze plug AKA as expansion plugs? Congrats on coming up on two yotas and welcome to this forum. The black one on the picture looks pretty cool, but that bumper sure is something that would have been made a tweeker.

Hard to tell on the net... but one thing I DO KNOW FOR SURE.... give me a PIC.... AND IT'S QUESTION ANSWERED! Lol. I'd post a pic of my motor, but being carb'd, I know some of the coolant lines are different.

Nah, not an idiot, just getting started, .....it can be a pain to soak all in! lol.

Anyway, that is the block plate for the back of the head. Anyway, ....is that where you said you're leaking coolant? Seems so, I can see a trail where it's rusted now. I'm not sure just putting a bolt in that will suffice, man. I'd have to look it up.... Not sure I removed mine, but did remove the top bolt that the chassis to motor ground goes to. (hole in the fire wall behind that on one side of the wire....under one of those bolts on the other).

If I remember correctly, that plate is for the exhaust to recirculate from the manifold to the intake. SO I don't think there should be any water coming out of there, but I am checking on it right now and I will let you know.

Ok, it does have water behind the plate, but it also has a "tunnel" going through it for exhaust. Pull it, and replace the gasket, or silicone it and get another metric bolt for it and you should be good. GUess I am getting old and losing my memory, lol.---- http://www.toyotapartseast.com/compo...-04-11638.html ---look here for the gasket, its about $6 and you might be able to cross reference it at a local auto parts store. Good luck with it..

I was looking for the gasket the other day at autozone, the guy looked at me funny and I made him search the system for it. Turns out they didn't have it. I just got a roll of the make-your-own gasket from felpro. Took some time but works great!

just make sure if you do that to cut out the center so the exhaust can flow too.

I think B^ Above is right, you 'CAN' cut one out. I did so on a couple spots. Personally, I would just bite the bullet and go to the dealer, ...can't be more than 8$. It will be an EXACT fit and their gaskets are ALMOST always really good quality.

If you have a Napa near you, I'd check there, before any of the other BIG 3 parts stores. Napa just might have it. TOYOTA? <<<>>>will have it, lol.

I might even have one, Country... I'll check in my kit's leftovers. If so, I'll just ship it to ya with a stamp in a bend proofed envelope, lol. Probably not, but I'll check.

I would normally try NAPA or if all else fails, TOYOTA. I would have but I like to turn my builds into an all-nighter.

Still not sure what that part is called though, anyone know?

I tried explaining it to the local AZ for a good 30 mins and they had no clue what it was. The guy even let me look on his computer and I couldn't find it in the system.

Like we said, check out napa or the dealership or you could order it online..it's like 6 or 7 bucks..heres the link toyotabull posted.
182-35040 - This is the part number on that site..not sure if its the Toyota part number or not.

Let us know how it goes!!
