opinions on running 36's with 5.29's or 4.88, hwy vs offroad

K.85 22re xcab. I'm running 36in. SS. I was goin to get 5.29s and have my get 4.7 gears (single t.c ) in my t.case. I was talkin to a friend and he said run 4.88s. With the 4.7 tc. Locked f&r. It will give me better hi-way speed. He said I would top out at around 55 or 60 with 5.29s
Would I be better of just gettin dual cases and 5.29s or 4.88 and 4.7 single tc.
Moneys tight might add

I might be missing something, but how does a dual case affect overall ratio when not in 4 lo? ie 4hi/2hi? And isn't a 4.7 case only lower geared when in 4lo? Wouldn't speed vs rpm be the same with 28's and 4:10's as it would be with say 33's and 4:88's or 35's and 5.29's? And how does that really affect highway speed? Because 28's and 4:10s 60mph would turn roughly 3,000 RPM IIRC. So one would think at 60 MPH and 35's 5.29's should be around 3,000 RPM. 36's would be slightly lower than 35's but not by much.

Yep...but of course the diff gearing will effect his low & high range.

I'd play around with this calculator if I were you Nip...read the instructions and select your tranny from the drop down menu : http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56784

That's what I thought. I don't know much that's why I'm asking. He said that 4.7s in the t.c. would effect my gearing for top speed. Unless I missed something he said.

So if I did just do one t.c. with the 4.7s in it ill be all good. Cause I wad goin to get 5.29s and that. I assumed it wouldn't be a problem but he mad me second guess myself. Cause I'm not well educated in that area

Nope, only the low range, the high range will stay the same 1:1.

5.29's and 36's would be the right combo.

4.7's in the case only affect your top speed while in 4 lo in which you shouldn't be driving on the street in 4wd anyway unless there is snow on the ground and them you shouldn't be going 60 mph anyway.

If you need more speed in 4lo then you should be in 4 hi.

Another question. What document guys think about running one t.c. with the 4.7.?? I've already had my dl lengthened for my lift so I don't really want to do it again. I think the 4.7 t.c. would be good right.? And if I did go duel down the road I could just get a stock case and adapter plate

if go dual case, I am pretty sure the rear DS has to get shortened while the front gets lengthened. I could be wrong though.

I guess it depends on the type of trails you run but that would be pretty slow for normal trails. I'm guessing you have a 5 speed at this point. What ever you do DO NOT push in the clutch and coast down a hill with super low gearing (the clutch will explode from the massive RPMs).

Did you input your tranny into that gearing calculator and see your top speed in low and high range?

For example with 36" tires, 5 speed tranny, 5.29 gears in diff, and 4.7 gears in t-case your speed at 3000 rpms in 4wd low would be 15.2 mph... IN 5th GEAR! (3.27 mph in 1st gear at 3000 rpms)

To convert the crawl speed in that calculator from feet/min to miles/hour... divide by 5280 and multiply by 60.

Your speed in high range (4wd or 2wd) at 3000 rpms would be 71 mph in 5th gear with that same set-up.
