Hey all,
My 4runner ran low on oil a while back and I didn't realize it. After changing the oil, I noticed a slight knocking noise when the engine was cold, but it would go away at higher RPMs or once it warmed up. Now the knock is getting louder and it occurs even warmed up at any RPM. It seems to be coming from the lower part of the motor. Would this most likely be main bearings or pistons or??/? Do you think a rebuild kit would be fine? Just hoping someone may have experienced similar issues.

they dont knock for no reason somethings worn out only way to find out is pull it apart and look.

 

Without hearing the actual noise and from you saying you ran the truck low on oil, I would say you spun a rod bearing.

ok, checked rod bearings, going to post another thread so the title is more relevant.

 

I have a motor out of a 95 4 runner for sale. Truck was wrecked on pass side would love to part it out, but can't figure out how to post. Either way the motor is a 3.0 with 135975 miles on it and no noise.
