I had to drive 25mph the whole way home today due to my defrost not blowing! I need to resolve this issue fast. I have very little air coming out my defrost vents regardless of blower setting. All of my doors under the dash are working properly and all other settings like vents and floor are blowing fine. I believe my ducts are stopped up somewhere. With defrost on full blast the top of the dash where the vents are located is hot to the touch but just no air blowing out of them.

Is there an easy way to suck out the vents without having to disassemble the whole dash?

Does anyone have any pictures of the back of the dash and the defrost vent routing?

Anyone else experience this problem? if so what did you do to fix it?

Also I heater/ac panel light isn't working, I figured the bulb was blown but I just replaced the switch and light and still no lights. Any ideas here?

Haven't had the problem myself, but is there any evidence that a mouse found a happy home and packed in a bunch of stuff plugging the upper ducts?

 

Well actually I did pick some carpet backing out of the floor vent after I bought it. It did not have carpet when I bought it so I didn't think anything of it at the time. Thats probably what happened. Whats the best way to get to the upper ducts? I had the dash pulled half way out and I couldn't squeeze my big head far enough under there to see where the defrost ducts come from. Will I have to pull the top shell completely out or is there something I am missing.

 

Or if someone had some pictures or a diagram that would be great!

 

have you tried putting a mirror up there or looking in from outside?
polarized sunglasses may help you see past the windshield reflections...

 

I'll second mouse nest! A vehicle doesn't have to sit very long before they lay claim to it.
If you want to get it cleared out taking the dash apart and cleaning out the ducts is about the only way I know of. If it is that make sure you wear
a dust mask and nitrite or latex gloves when you are cleaning it out and disinfect everything! Mouse urine and droppings can carry the Heppa Virus.

 

Hmm, never have heard of Heppa virus, but Hanta virus is carried by rodents, including mice. Good advice on the mask and gloves when working around rodent nests, etc.

Thanks for the info. Ill wear som gloves and a mask for sure. The guy I bought it from said the truck sat for a while so a mouse is probly the culprit then.

 

I knew that mouse droppings could make you sick , it is good to know the symptoms.

 

UPDATE: Finally got around to tearing the dash out yesterday. No mouse nests or clogged vents of any sort but I did find that the vent that goes from the back of the HVAC box to the defrost vents was missing. After scrounging through some stuff the previous owner gave me with the truck I found it. I guess he didnt think it was needed so he left it out. I have it all back together and blowing like a champ! While I was in there I cleaned all the ducts out and everything behind the dash so now the air smells nice and fresh! Thanks for everyones input!!!!
