ill try to see if i can catch a sound clip if i can tomorrow i don't know if i will be able to or not as its not doing it all the time and sometimes when it does it you cant hear it unless your really listening for it. somtimes its quite loud. when it does it seems to do it for a few miles and then quiet down or go away all together. i first noticed the sound when backing up a couple weeks ago, and has been occurring more often sense then.

it sounds like a bolt rubbing on a pulley but i only have my belt on the water pump and alt (no power steering and ac belt is not on) there is no signs of anything rubbing on a pulley let alone i don't see how anything could. it will only do it if there is a load on the motor, it wont make the sound revving in neutral. if you let off the gas when it makes the noise it stops put your foot back on the gas and it comes back. iv had it happen in every gear. at many different speeds when it makes the noise it makes no change to lightly apply apply the clutch if you disengage the clutch it goes away as there is no longer a load on the engine. the clutch does not slip.

ANYONE got any idea's

ok i went for a drive and got it to do it but you couldn't hear it on the camera. i went crawling all around the truck trying to find the problem i found that the rear output shaft on the trans has a little play in it, would this cause the sound i'm trying to describe. its not much play but certainly has some play.

 

Try jacking the back wheels up, block the front wheels and have someone get it up to speed so it makes the noise and then see if you can find it, if you dont have a stethescope a long screwdriver will do.

 

at the moment i'm 200 miles from home with limited tools, ill be working here for a few days and then heading home, i'm not going to be able to try to repair anything till i get home. i will have a hard time duplicating the sound in that manner as for one the sound is intermittent not constant and two there has to be a load on the drive line for the sound to occur. (as in accelerating or pressing the gas to maintain speed)

 

check your power steering resorvoir, if mines low it makes some pretty horrible sounds at all speeds... also just kind of look around under your truck or anywhere you think metal can have contact with a moving part..hell could even be a dust shield on the backside of a rotor

 

no power steering, truck is not equip with it, i will check the dust shield, but that doesn't make sense that if it was that why it would stop when lifting your foot off the gas, ill give it a look though.

my first thought when i heard it was that the exhaust was rubbing somewhere but its no where near rubbing anywhere.

 

Check your motor and trans mounts?

 

motor and trans mounts look ok , snowing out today not much chance to try too look at anything dust shields look ok , one is bent in the front but its bent away from the rotor.

after i got to work one of my co workers called me had there hybrid stuck in the snow went and pulled them out and iv been having a random misfire sense then. no cel, seems to be lacking some power, it was fine before then, i didn't pull them hard or rev high pulling them out just a light pull when a small amount of wheel spin if anything i lugged the engine instead of reving it high, i also seem to be having a little more lifter noise than normal but that my be my imagination as well.
