Hi Everybody - my 4runner is going on 200K and I think it needs shocks by now...going over bumps their is no movement at all...compression or rebound.

any suggestions for replacement?

my 4runner is my daily driver and occasionally use for hiking trips so push come to shove moderate/beginner on rear hardcore trail riding.

Um...what? The shocks don't move?


Just go anywhere and get new shocks.

 

lots of folks love bilstein, OME, and I have heard tokico thrown in there too. I didn't have much to spend when I bought my rig, so I got a set of gabriel max control. Had no problems, got em online for 40 something a shock, and they appear to be the same shock Les Schwab uses as their high end shock.


Low end rancho's have a bad reputation.

I picked up some Rough Country Hydro 8000 shocks for pretty cheap and they work fine. Read a lot of reviews that the Nitro charged 9000 shocks made for a harsh ride

If you plan to keep your truck for a long time, buy the Bilteins-- they will outlast others 2-3 times over and have outstanding control withou being harsh. You can get them for less than $60 each.

I agree with Rabbit. I have Bilstien HD shocks on my 87 4Runner. Love them! They replaced some worn out Gabriels that the PO had installed. Purchased them from "shockwarehouse" for $69 with free shipping.

That's a good price for Bilsteins, I'll have to keep that in mind when its time to upgrade.

 

Since I have been laid off longer then I can remember the little misses gave me permission to buy my 4runner though I was not supposed to spend any money on it. Well the front left and rear right are blown out. So the ride really sucks. I went the cheap route, I found Gabriel Max Control shocks on ebay. The average came out to 31 dollars a shock. I should get the rear shocks on Friday. I will post up if they are worth it later.

I guess they are OK for commuting. The real problem with my 4runner right now is the rear leaf springs are flat. That makes for a very rough ride. I had installed Bilteins in my full size Chevy a few years back, they seem to work real well. I don't think I would recommend the Gabriel's for anything other then a pavement vehicle.
